Our dear friend Santi (Sartini) has been the much-loved nanny to many Australian families in Jakarta over the past decade. She has a rare gift with children, who love her for her sincere devotion and endless games.
Santi has been diagnosed with cancer and is in hospital. Her prognosis is very serious. Although Santi has been able to access some care through the Indonesian health care system, her medical bills have mounted. It's not yet clear what treatment will be possible for her, and there may be additional costs.
We seek donations to contribute to the costs of any medical treatment and care, and to help Santi meet her financial commitments while she can't work. Santi is also building a house, and we would make donations available to complete that work and make sure it is suitable for her as she goes through any treatment.
We are devastated at the news of Santi's illness and will be very grateful for any contributions. Thank you.
About us: We are Joanne Sharpe, Catherine Gottleib and Paul Regnault. Santi has worked for our three respective families and cared for our children. Joanne and Catherine are now based in Canberra, Australia. Paul is in Jakarta, Indonesia and Santi is currently working for his family.
Donations to this campaign will be withdrawn by Paul, who will then transfer via direct debit to Santi's Indonesian bank account. If necessary, Paul may also use funds to pay bills directly (eg medical bills).
We will provide updates via this page on how funds raised are used to support Santi in the coming months.
