Sangha Studio - South | We're Growing!!

Tax deductible
Sangha Family!! We have some SUPER AWESOME news to share with you!

This past fall, Caitlin, the studio founder, and Britt, the assistant director, took a 13-week course called Power Forward with the Vermont Chapter OF Center for Women in Enterprise. (Shout out to their two teachers and amazing business women, Carolyn Cooke and Annette Rexroad!) Through the class, Caitlin and Britt were encouraged to work on the strategic growth of Sangha Studio and their vision for the future. There was a lot of thinking, note taking, brainstorming, and a little bit of crying. #feelingallthefeelings

One of the biggest takeaways from this class was solidifying a unique plan for our strategic growth. We truly and deeply want yoga to be accessible to more people. Every action we take is with the motivation to create more community and more access.

To do this, we really needed more space and that was heavy on our minds. We have a full slate of amazing continuing education trainings coming in 2020, as well as both our 200 and *new* 300-hour Teacher Training. Not to mention, that we know a handful of our classes at both the North and the Pine location are over capacity in the busy months. We were stumped and a wee bit stressed.

The class with Carolyn and Annette helped us solidify that we could do it - we could 100% operate a third studio space. It would solve so many of our above space issues AND it would help us to further build an empowered community through yoga.

More yoga, more community and more access. So we took the leap and have signed a lease for our newest location: Sangha Studio – South in South Burlington on Dorset St. We’re in and ready for this wild ride…. are you?

Why a third location?

There are so many reasons we’re excited to have this particular third studio location:

✨ The space is physically accessible for all students as it’s situated on the first floor and ADA approved.

Consistency for YOU! We won’t have to continue to cancel drop-in classes during training weekends.

There are TWO rooms in one space! A long time dream of ours has been to offer a drop-in flow style class at the same time as a Community Yoga Program Class. We will FINALLY be able to offer a Chair Yoga class at 5:45pm!! Dreams do come true!

✨ More parking. Free parking. More free parking!

✨ How cool would it be to offer donation-based heated yoga? Well, let’s find out! We’re doing it!

✨ We will be able to more evenly distribute our student base between the three studio locations so that no one is ever turned away from a class because they can’t fit in the studio.

✨ There will be more teaching opportunities for the incredible teachers in our community!

✨ There are more ideal times for workshops and specialty classes!

✨ It’s like a blank slate space for us…. we just have to make it Sangha-y!!!

Why did we choose this location?

We’ve heard your feedback about lack of parking both in downtown and the old north end. This location offers lots of FREE parking! Situated sweetly in the Blue Mall on Dorset St, this studio is on the bus line, which makes getting to it without a car accessible. Finally, the space is physically accessible for all students as it’s situated on the first floor and ADA approved.

Why are we fundraising and how will donations be used?

Nothing at Sangha is possible without the love and support of our Sustaining Members and our community. We’ve asked for your financial help two other times to support our Community Yoga Programs (formerly Yoga Service Programs) with big community yoga events like “Here to be: Yogathon” in 2016 and “Blissed Out in Battery Park” in 2018. This is quite possibly our biggest ask ever. We’re looking to collectively raise $20,000 to make the South Burlington space our new home - to make it Sangha. To make it your home away from home. Your place to come as you are.

We’ve already:

Repainted the entire space - you guessed it orange and blue :)

Done our best to fix general wear and tear throughout the space- can you say spackle?!?

Removed all the wall mirrors in the large studio - big thanks to Hank (from craigslist! haha) from southern Vermont for taking those babies off our hands and to our crew of heavy lifters who helped take them off the walls!

Removed all the retail slats on the wall in the entryway and we’ve got shiplap going up next week! Thank you EcoBean for the inspiration! The space won’t have our signature barn doors, so we think this will do the trick for similar Sangha vibes :)

Happily demoed the old ‘80s-style built in check-in desk. It just wasn’t serving us…. plus we can’t wait to use the original check-in desk from Sangha Main Street! It was one of the very first things Caitlin bought when she opened the studio and it feels amazingly fitting to use it here now.

What we want to do and where we need your help:

Blow out the extra walls to the closet room in the large studio to make more space for YOU to practice! With that we will also need to install cork flooring where there is currently tile, fix what will be the new walls to the room, repaint, and add in the drop-ceiling. ($2,000)

Replace the emergency door with one that will bring in more natural light! We think this will really make the space pop and give us a greater connection to the outside ($500)

Add a built in entrance rug! It will be just like we have at the North studio and very heavy duty, for all your shoe scraping! ($400)

Rip up the entryway flooring! Can you say welcome to high school? The current floor is not cutting it. What do you think about polished concrete with…. glitter? Or maybe the same floor we have at North? We will need to demo and dispose of the current floor and then replace it with something more Sangha-y. ($3,000)

Add an additional heat source to the hot room. Right now, the heat isn’t flowing the way we want it to around the space and to the far side of the room. Adding a floor heater will fix this problem! We’ve already got a Sustaining Member who can come in and install it for us so it will be easy as pie! ($1,500)

Add a humidifier to the hot room! No nose bleeds please! Let’s add some humidity back into the air and make the room feel like the most perfect tropical island escape for mid-winter. Glorious. ($200)

The changing rooms need to be a smidge larger. You guessed it, we want to knock down another wall to give you more space to comfortably change before and after class! No one likes being cramped trying to get yoga pants on ($1,500)

✨ You’ll never believe this one…. We need 30, THIRTY, folding chairs for our weekly Chair Yoga class! ($475)

✨ New space means NEW Props! Right now we think we can fit on average about 30 people in each room, so we are planning for 60 props total. That means 60 bolsters, 60 blankets, 60 straps, 60 eye pillows and 180 blocks. That’s a lot of good stuff! ($8,000)

IN OUR DREAMS and if all the stars align:

Rip out the drop ceiling in the hot room and add overhead fans! There is SO MUCH amazing space above that ceiling. Let’s look up at something cooler ($10,000)

✨ Also we would love to add a small kitchenette area, so that it’s just as homey as Pine and North. AND add a shower so you can rinse off before work after a hot flow class! ($2,000 kitchenette // $4,000 shower)

We are literally bursting at the seams with excitement for 2020 and all it holds for the studio and our community. We can’t wait to take this wild ride with you! Where the energy goes, the tide flows! IT’S GOING TO BE SO AWESOME!!!! Tell everyone, like everyone!!!
