Sanford Hubbard Farm Restoration

You wouldn’t even know she was there. Shaded by 100-year-old pines, tucked back on the property sits a world of history long forgotten. Sanford Hubbard, or as his friends call him “Sandy”, was born with the gift of crafting and spent the majority of his teenage years helping his father, Elbert Hubbard (famous Roycrofter and poet) construct the astonishing Roycroft Campus in East Aurora, NY. After living out West for several years crafting glorious log cabins that still stand today; Sandy and his wife, Georgina, moved back to East Aurora, NY.
This is where our story begins.
To say that Sanford Hubbard was a carpenter would be an understatement. Sandy crafted a “modest” tile tower that sat on 110 acres, to which he planted hundreds of pines. Today that house still stands on her last three acres, quietly hidden behind the trees so lovingly planted to surround her. Walking through the property you can feel the history, you can see each detail of his craft in its most raw form. Time seems to stand still in this house. The moment you walk through her doors you are transported back. You can imagine her glory as all the prominent individuals, such as Henry Ford, walked through that same door and touched that same railing. Each fiber of this house oozes with history and knowledge of true tradesmen.
But sadly, the house has fallen into extreme disrepair and is in need of extensive love and attention before it is too late. Emmett Gerwitz, being a gifted carpenter, has decided to embrace this long-forgotten property, with Sandy’s vision at the forefront. The next couple of years will be dedicated to restoring this historical beauty to her natural state. This will be no easy feat though, and each and every dollar donated will be put directly into the restoration of our community history.
As we begin the earnest process of restoring the vision of Sanford Hubbard, we are also on a treasure hunt ourselves. We are piecing together the life of a man so incredible and impactful to our country. We would love to hear from anyone that knew Sandy, his family or spent time at the farm! Although the farm sounds like a fun place to explore and visit it is not open to the public, at this time. We have a strict no trespassing policy, for the safety of everyone! Further information regarding tours will be provided after construction. Please check back for more progress as we go along!
