Nearly 12 years ago, our mother was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called Pseudomyxoma Peritonei. The odds of getting this cancer is 1 in a million. It affects the abdominal cavity and researchers believe that the cancer forms from a ruptured appendix that goes untreated, leaking into the abdominal cavity. She was given 4 to 8 years to live.
She underwent emergency surgery, where they removed a 22 lb tumor along with multiple others.
Her next surgery came in 2009 and her surgeon was able to utilize HIPEC (heated chemo) to keep the tumors at bay until August 16th 2018. This was when she had her last surgery.
She had multiple organs removed, including her entire stomach; however, she stayed strong and was able to return home 2 weeks later.
Her infection risk remained high, so only immediate family members were allowed to see her.
This morning, my father was assisting my mother with attempting to go to the restroom when she collapsed. She was transported via ambulance due to her heart rate being nearly 250 beats per minute.
At this time, my mother is in critical ICU and most likely will need further procedures, possibly surgery (if she is stable enough), and possibly dialysis.
This has been extremely traumatizing for our family, especially our father who relied on our mother to take care of the financial situations. Our mother is a very private person; however, since this has occurred, it has fallen on her daughters to help her and our father at this time.
In general, we are a very proud family, and hate to ask for help, but we need it. Please keep our mother in your thoughts, prayers, and please consider donating to help relieve the financial strain, as her chemo cost $6500 alone, not considering the surgery, drains, ambulance ride, and multiple hospital stays.

At this time, we are asking for please NO visitors. Due to her extremely high risk of infection, we want to take every precaution we can to get our mother back to her happy, healthy self.
It has been a very hard year for our family, considering we had to bury our brother, and our mother had to bury her only son.
Our mother loves her community, church, family, and adores her grandsons. We want to get her back with “the boys” aka her grandchildren.
