Sandys Story

For everyone who knows Sandy, knows he is one of the most caring, kind hearted souls. His friendliness lights up every room he walks in. About a month ago, he woke up in the middle of the night completely paralyzed. What started as just a migraine and some nausea led to complete paralysis. He was rushed to the emergency room at Scripps Encinitas where it was originally thought he had a stoke. When a stroke was ruled out, it left us with so many questions. Eventually we got a diagnosis of Guillain Barre Syndrome, an extremely rare autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the nervous system. Typically Guillain Barre Syndrome is a rare side effect to vaccines and just two weeks prior to this sudden incident, Sandy received the Johnson and Johnson covid vaccine. He spent about three weeks in the ICU unable to walk, talk or move any part of his body. A feeding tube was put in through his nose because he was unable to swallow. Sandy is now at Tri-City Medical Center at the rehabilitation center where he is learning how to do all the basics of life all over again and there is no telling when he will be home. A full recovery is likely going to take up to two years. Our family has suffered tremendously with his absence. He is our rock, our best friend, our happiness on our worst days. He is someone who will always listen and always give his most loving advice. He is someone who will stop at nothing to make sure the people he cares about always has a smile on their face. Sandy has been out of work for a little over a month now which means paying bills has been a struggle. As of right now, we have about $70,000 worth of medical bills that is not covered by insurance.
