Sandra’s Lung Transplant Recovery Costs

Hi my name is Sandra Rivas and I was born with a genetic disorder called Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is where my body produces thick mucous.. blocking my airways which causes persistent lung infections and limits my ability to breathe overtime. Additional symptoms I experience are poor growth and weight gain, chronic coughing, fatigue, and sinus infections. 

  Throughout the years I have been in and out of the hospital due to my lung infections, and low respiratory levels. After 16 years with Cystic Fibrosis, my lungs have progressively gotten weaker and are starting to fail. My doctors have decided it’s time I receive a lung transplant, and am currently in the process.

  The reason I am raising is because after the surgery there will be a lot of expenses that we  cannot cover such as food, transportation, medications, and most importantly the house where I’ll be recovering. I will be staying at the Mason House near Emory, since I have to go back and forth to the hospital frequently for tests to make sure my body is accepting the new lungs . 

Also my parent’s will step out of their work to take care of me. My mother full-time,and my father part-time ... in that timeframe they would need to cover the mason house expenses and the rent for our actual home. The raising is not just for me, but it’s also to support my parents financially in a time of healing.

Hola, mi nombre es Sandra y nací con un trastorno genético llamado Fibrosis Quística. La fibrosis quística es donde mi cuerpo produce una mucosa espesa ... que bloquea mis vías respiratorias, lo que causa infecciones pulmonares persistentes y limita mi capacidad de respirar sobre el tiempo. Los síntomas adicionales que experimento son crecimiento deficiente y aumento de peso, tos crónica, fatiga e infecciones sinusales.

  A lo largo de los años he estado entrando y saliendo del hospital debido a mis infecciones pulmonares y bajos niveles respiratorios. Después de 16 años con fibrosis quística, mis pulmones se han debilitado progresivamente y comienzan a fallar. Mis médicos han decidido que es hora de que reciba un trasplante de pulmón, y actualmente estoy en el proceso.

  La razón por la que estoy recaudando fondos es porque después de la cirugía habrá muchos gastos que no podemos cubrir, como alimentos, transporte, medicamentos y, lo más importante, la casa donde me recuperaré. Me quedaré en Mason House, ya que tengo que ir al hospital con frecuencia para realizar pruebas para asegurarme que mi cuerpo acepte los nuevos pulmones.
