Sanctuary 4 Kids

Hello. My name is Debbie Butler, president of "Guardians For New Futures" a nonprofit advocating for abuse and neglected children. I'm here to tell you about a cause very personal to me. Substance abuse, violence and neglect affects millions every year. But mostly children. During the past six months, nearly 300 children have been removed from their homes by DCF workers, with the majority being ages 5 and younger. Currently, if an immediate placement is not available, children are forced to stay in state offices or with case managers while placement staff find a stable home. This gap in services has existed for over 10 years in South Florida's local area.


These offices were not designed to serve the physical or emotional needs of children during this transitional period. When Guardians For New Futures found this out we had to do something right away. That's why we launched the Sanctuary4Kids GoFundMe campaign which will help build a 24 hour temporary emergency shelter for abused children in our area. With this shelter, newborns all the way up to teenagers will be able to bathe, receive a healthy meal, clean clothes and have a safe place to sleep, all while trauma informed care professionals help reduce the impact of the upheaval already experienced by the child. Sanctuary4kids has set a goal of $400,000 and has already received a tremendous lead gift of over $200,000. But we still need more to make this a reality.

Numerous local groups, county and state agencies have collaborated with us, including Devereux Community Based Care and the Florida Department of Children and Families. However no one agency, individual or organization can do it all – it takes the financial support of individuals, businesses and foundations in the entire community to help protect these children.
