Sanctuary at Utah Pride Festival

Donation protected
Sanctuary is an art/architecture project being featured at the Utah Pride Festival in which the Pride community and supporters create a temporary sanctuary out of cardboard. Participants fold a brick out of flat cardboard and add it to the growing predesigned structure. The structure will be built on Saturday, June 2, and serve as a sanctuary throughout the Festival Weekend. Bricks will be decorated with a name or inclusive phrase to make the Sanctuary an open sacred space and a physical monument to the excluded. The project asserts that "all are alike unto God" and attempts to counter the suppression of LGBT individuals in Mormon and other religious culture.

Funds will be raised in advance to cover the cost of producing the project. The current cost estimate per brick is $4.34. The project uses inexpensive materials, but requires technology (laser cutting) to pull it off. This is a labor of love. Fundraising goals are set to cover expenses only. Please consider donating to help this project come to life. It is a symbol of what we can do as a community - build the future we believe in.
