2018 GUN BUY-BACK: CASH & QUILTS FOR GUNS

We are all frustrated by the role of gun violence in our communities, and we refuse to accept that there is nothing we can do about it.

Together we can start solving this problem right now.

The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles has committed to raising at least $20,000 to get guns off the streets. And we need your help by November 23rd!

The Museum is proud to be joining forces with the San Jose Police Department and Police Foundation to facilitate a unique gun buy-back where individuals will receive cash AND a beautiful quilt in exchange for turning in weapons, no questions asked. The event will take place on December 1, 2018 at the SJPD South Substation. The San Jose Police Department collected 690 guns during 2016's gun buy-back, and we hope to beat that record in 2018!

Here is how it will work:

 - The San Jose Police Department and Foundation operates the event to make sure it goes smoothly and safely.

- Any individual can turn in their firearms, no questions asked, and receive cash AND quilts.

- All guns collected are safely destroyed.

- Every dollar you donate will go directly to removing a dangerous weapon from the streets of San Jose.

-Up to $100 will remove a handgun, rifle or shotgun.

-Up to $200 will remove an assault weapon.

In conjunction with an exhibition held at SJMQT from April 22-July 15, 2018  Guns: Loaded Conversations - a fiber art exhibition that looks at the Second Amendment and gun use worldwide from a variety of perspectives—the museum launched an initiative CASH + QUILTS FOR GUNS.

The quilt making community across the country has generously supplied over 100 quilts for the event. Now we need the $.

Please help us get the word out. Give what you can. Together, we can make our communities safer, gun by gun. #cash&quiltsforguns #artistsforchange
