Samuelson Family Adoption

FUN FACTS to Our Story:
-Peter was adopted from Korea at 6 months old
-Kang majored in Social Work to work specifically with adoptions.

Our Story:
The Lord laid on our hearts adoption very early on in our marriage. Peter and I were always sensitive towards adoption; had a heart for those in it, and knew that one day we would be adopting as well.

We prayed for wisdom and discernment; to be good stewards of our time, money and resources. After having two biological children, Edith and Eli, in God's perfect timing, he brought this long desire of pursuing adoption to us around May of 2018. Through much prayer, research and late night talks, we decided to look up the adoption agency Peter and his brother were adopted from!

We had no idea where exactly we were going to adopt from, but as we continued on with the application process, it was made VERY clear that God had already chosen a country for us. The ONE country that we qualified for through our adoption agency happened to be the SAME exact country Peter and his brother were adopted from--South Korea!!

We applied and was approved to move forward with the application process June 13, 2018. After months of paperwork for the home study application⏩ background checks, psychological interviews, doctors' visits, education training....we arrived at the home study appointment this year-January 2019.

We were HOME STUDY APPROVED as of April 5, 2019, and was told that we will be matched to a toddler within the next ONE to TWO months!

HOWEVER, just a little after two weeks on April 22, 2019, we received the news that another family had to quickly back out of the adoption process, and we were considered in their place!

⏩We were given a referral for a sweet little boy who is currently 15 months old (he just so happen to be from the same province that Peter was born in). This little boy is happy and healthy; well-taken care of by his foster family! Praise God! We officially accepted the referral April 30, 2019! YAY!

⏩We are still not done with this adoption though...we have to wait almost another 10 months or so before we can bring this little boy home.... IN THE MEANTIME,

⏩ 1. Would you please pray:

-that God would have ALL the Glory and Honor

-for the birth mom and birth dad (who both have chosen the better route-adoption instead of abortion).  May the Lord comfort them in dealing with the loss of their son; may they come to know the Lord and hear of the good news of Jesus and what He has done for them. May they know that they are valued and loved; that WE truly appreciate their decision to choose life.

-for the foster parents-Praise God that our little boy has been with the same foster parents since he was 2 months old!! Please pray that they will have the love, patience and strength during this time with our son; please pray that their mourning will be short and joy-filled even though it'll be hard once the time comes for us to go get our son (we understand mourning is a process).

-for us to be patient in the process, and trust fully in God's plan for us and this child -for this sweet boy and us (Peter, Kang, Edith and Eli) to have the smoothest transition becoming a family of 5; that our child's mourning of the loss of everything he had ever known up until the point we get him  would not be too traumatic for him; that he'll know that he is so loved already.

-for Edith and Eli to embrace their new brother with great love and affection; may all three of them grow to have a deep sibling bond and become the best of friends.

-for our marriage; that we will not let the hurdles of adoption; changes in family dynamics water down or draw us away from our love for the Lord, and each other; that we will be rooted deeply in the truth of the gospel day in and day out!

-for us to trust in the Lord and not be anxious; that He WILL provide financially for us during this season of our lives!

⏩2. We are in need of financial support for travel to and from South Korea (Two 7-day trips) along with the MANY misc. FEES that are involved with the adoption.

----->Our estimated total cost for an international adoption from Korea is roughly $45,000-$55,000.
-----> We have just about $35,000 covered already from close family, and from the different opportunities through Peter's work just this year! PRAISE GOD for ALL that HE has PROVIDED us!
----->We currently NEED roughly $20,000 as of May 2019!

We know we cannot go through this adoption journey on our own. All we know is that the Lord has called us to adoption, and has so graciously provided us with a child in waiting. Therefore, we are confidently walking in faith knowing that He will provide every single penny of it in His timing.

*If YOU are feeling called to give towards our adoption after reading our story, PLEASE help us bring our sweet little boy home!
