Upon retirement from professional athletics, my brother Samuel felt the need to give back to the community that gave him the opportunity to become a World Champion in the 400m Hurdles. He is endowed with vast experience which he has acquired over the years at the highest level in athletics. To this effect Samuel feel the duty bound to give back to his native country. As a qualified Coach and role model, he possess unique abilities to inspire the youth into athletics.
Samuel has the awareness as well as understanding that many of Zambia’s youth are confronted with diverse challenges, which includes teen pregnancy's, drugs, urban trauma of youth unemployment, crime, HIV/AIDS and alcohol abuse.

To this effect, Samuel has since formed the Samuel Matete Athletics Academy (SMAA) whose main objective is to inspire, nurture and encourage local young men and women to participate in athletics at the grassroots level in Kitwe, Zambia where he resides. This in turn will keep the youth out of the streets, keep them in school and give them an opportunity to be role models of others and promote a conducive place for the youth to develop as good citizens. To be part of the academy, athletes must be attending school in the area where they live. If they are not in school, the Academy will not allow them to enroll in the academy until they are enrolled in school. Being enrolled in school is one of the conditions an athlete must meet in order to join the academy.
Since Samuel created the academy, he has faced many challenges to satisfy the needs of the academy. Many young men and women have joined the academy but the academy is in need of resources to accommodate more athletes. The goal of this campaign is to help my brother with financial assistance through donations from friends and family. The donations will go towards improving training fields, acquire training equipment, sports clothing, training shoes, running shoes, and school supplies for the athletes in the academy. Your assistance will be highly appreciated.
