The Samuel J Dewey Memorial Scholarship at Michigan State University

Our friend Sam Dewey was a son, brother, teammate, and so much more to so many people. Sam was outgoing, understanding, dapper, mischievous, charming, positive, and bold. Sam brought joy, love, laughter, and kindness to anyone who knew him. He was raised in Rochester, Michigan. He went to Holy Family Regional School and attended Rochester Adams High School.

Sam's life ended by suicide on January 23rd, 2019. Rather than focusing on the end of Sam's life, we want to focus on the way he chose to live. In order to move his memory forward, as his classmates head off to college, we are creating the Samuel J. Dewey Memorial Scholarship at Michigan State University. This endowed scholarship, established, invested, and maintained by the University, will be a lasting legacy and continue in perpetuity to honor Sam's memory.

The Samuel J. Dewey Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to students who embody Sam's spirit and whose lives at Michigan State will honor his memory.
