Samson’s Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Thank you so much for taking the time to show your support. It means more than the world to us.

Over two months ago, Samson left his previous job, hoping he’d have more time to find a job he felt passionate about. He has spent days tirelessly working on applications and building connections through people he's known or worked with before.

About a month into job searching, he started to have fevers on and and off throughout the day, generally felt terrible, and had trouble sleeping. He woke up one day with a dull pain in his left lower leg, which led him to believe he had somehow pulled a muscle in his sleep. The pain eventually spread up much of his leg and redness began showing on his skin. Very soon after, he wasn't able to bear weight on the leg and that’s when we knew something was not right.

That day, I left work early and helped him make a trip to an urgent care clinic. They immediately recognized the fevers, pain, and swelling as symptoms of an infection that was winning the battle and recommended an immediate trip to the ER for IV antibiotics and possible hospital admittance. Fearing the worst, we took their advice and headed to an ER, where IV antibiotics and saline fluids were administered.

The ER was able to quickly find a bed at a nearby hospital, where Samson was eventually admitted and spent three days and two nights, under stressful observation. Fortunately, the antibiotics started having an affect and the redness and swelling of his leg began to slowly subside and his fevers broke.

He continued to recover and heal for the following few weeks and is doing much better now, all thanks to the medical professionals at NYU Langone and the support of friends and family. It was quite an eye-opening experience for us and has proven to not be over quite yet.

Although Samson is covered under the expensive insurance I pay for through work (which covered an incredible amount of the medical charges incurred), we are still responsible for an amount of out-of-pocket expenses that we aren’t able to afford on our own, especially since Samson just started working again within the last week.

So, I’m doing for us what I never thought I'd ever have to or ever want to do, which is turning to the support of our loving family and friends who may be able help us out. We may never reach the goal I’ve set, but any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
