THE PROBLEM >>
Our son Sam (and our whole family) has been battling Autism for 15+ years. Sam started out in life as a “normal” happy child, but around the age of two we knew something was terribly wrong.
In the early 2000s few people had ever even heard of Autism, so the early interventions and treatments available today were not in place when they could have really helped him.
Over the years we have poured our hearts and souls and countless hours into helping Sam every way possible at home, school and in healthcare settings. Of course, this has all come at an extremely high emotional – and financial – cost. We, like other families, are on “the fault line” of crushing debt that comes with taking care of a very sick child.
Besides Autism and intellectual disability, his diagnoses now include OCD, PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus, an infection in his brain), Agoraphobia, Static Encephalopathy, as well as Severe Communication and Anxiety Disorder.
We were keeping our heads above water until Sam received a high-tech / high-dose intravenous antibiotic treatment at a well-respected Washington DC medical facility in 2017. As it turned out, this $20,000+ treatment and related appointments and tests were not covered by insurance after all! We fought with the insurance company and took our case all the way to the Attorney General of Maryland, but our claim was rejected and we find ourselves in an overwhelming situation regarding out of pocket costs.

We are humbly asking our friends and family, and their extended networks, for their generosity and support to help us raise $15,000 to defray existing debt from treatment so we can move forward with the next phase of helping Sam.
