Sammy's Road to Recovery Fund

On December 31, 2016 I was participating in a recreational flag football league in Burleson, Texas. While playing I accidently fell on my neck causing the following injuries. I fractured C5 and C7 vertebrate  in my neck and completely broke C6. My spine was swollen as well. I was paralyzed as I layed on the ground unable to move. I was quickly rushed to Harris Methodist Hospital in downtown Fort Worth, Tx. The doctors explained to my parents the prognosis of my injuries and prepared me for surgery which was scheduled at 8am on New Years Day. What a way to start the new Year. Well the surgery took about 5 hours and from my understanding it went really well.  I started my rehabilitation at Baylor Rehabilitation Institute in Dallas Texas on Tuesday January 10, 2017.  I was labeled as INCOMPLETE meaning that I was unable to function normally on my own. My rehabilitation lasted for 3 months at Baylor before I was released from Baylor on April 3, 2017 to continue my rehab at home in Aledo, TX. For now until God is ready for me to be fully functional again I am doing out-patient theraphy at Neurological Recovery Center in Fort Worth which consist of various motor skill exercises and balancing procedures. Although I am recovering very well I have a long way to go and the expense has been astronomical for me and my parents. I am optimistic however because I believe that God has great plans for my life and I am certainly interested in doing whatever his WILL is for me. My daily routine consists of Physical Therapy on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Occupational Therapy on Tuesday and Thursday. I am not able to walk on my own still but through my Acupuncture treatment I am experiencing sensation in various areas of my body and some I can actually control. In order for me to continue to improve it is important that I utilize the RT-300 bike, obtain a motorized and manual wheel chair  to advance my upper body strength and continue to gain voluntary capabilities in my hands and fingers. Also an access van  will allow easier transfers as I will need to be put into a wheel chair to exit in and out of my personal vehicle. Please continue to pray for me and that God's will be done in my life. I thank all of you for your continuous prayers, love and support.
