I am very proud to announce that I have been accepted for membership to the World Champion Carolina Crown Drum Corps. I have successfully completed the rigorous audition process and am now rehearsing monthly in the Charlotte, NC area to prepare for a 15,000-mile national tour this summer. For the past 25 years Carolina Crown has been a member of Drum Corps International - “Marching Music’s Major League.” We have just concluded another successful year in which we placed in the top 5 in the 2014 DCI World Championships in Indianapolis, IN.
Carolina Crown was established in 1989 by a group of former drum corps members, business professionals and music educators that wanted to establish a world-class organization that would “develop lifelong excellence in young people through a superior and challenging performing arts education experience.” As a member of Carolina Crown, we travel extensively throughout the United States and perform approximately 35 shows in stadiums like the Rose Bowl, Alamo-Dome, Lucas Oil Stadium, MetLife Stadium, the Georgia Dome, the Citrus Bowl and many other highly prestigious venues in front of thousands of people. Telecasts of our events have been shown on PBS and ESPN2, and each summer are simulcast into AMC movie theaters throughout the United States.
We are made up of over 150 musicians and dancers between the ages of 14 and 21. We come from nearly 27 states and 3 countries to perform in Crown. At the end of the audition process, nearly 500 students will have auditioned for the 150 performance spots that make the national touring company. I have competed for this spot with some of the most amazing and gifted young people in world!
As a member of the corps, I will spend the summer developing musical and movement expertise, but also self-reliance, discipline, leadership skills, and a strong self worth and work ethic. These are life skills that cannot be gained through ordinary summer jobs or week long musical camps. The life skills learned through drum corps are the skills that can be applied to everyday life, long after the drum corps experience is over.
Of course, being part of such a group does not come free and that is my reason for writing to you today. Each member of the corps is required to raise approximately $2,625 for tuition and touring fees. These fees cover all of our food, transportation and housing during the 3 months of spring training and tour. It also includes uniforms, musical instruments, equipment, and months of detailed musical and movement instruction. It represents about 30% of what it actually costs Carolina Crown to provide us with a positively life changing experience.
Here is where I hope you can help:
Carolina Crown allows me to ask for individual sponsorships that would go directly to my Crown account. I would greatly appreciate any financial assistance that you may be able to provide in assisting me to pursue my goals. Every donation helps, big or small.
Thank you for your consideration. Your support will allow me to fulfill my dream of participating in a world class drum corps this summer.
I hope you’ll have the chance to see me perform with this amazing organization this summer!
