Mi chiamo Leonard Wembagher e vivo a Napoli, in Italia.

Quando ero giovane, ho incontrato un ragazzo srilankese partito dallo Sri Lanka per Napoli per diventare sacerdote gesuita; parlava solo inglese e fece amicizia con la nostra famiglia in cui parlavamo anche inglese.

Il 21 giugno 1969 fu ordinato sacerdote gesuita a Napoli, nel rione Traiano, che a quel tempo era una zona difficile . La mia famiglia presenzio all’ ordinazione al posto dei suoi genitori che non potevano venire in Italia. Padre Ashley Samarasinghe ha lavorato nella zona del rione Triano e ha aperto una chiesa in un garage e un piccolo centro per aiutare gli studenti del quartiere dopo la scuola.

Dopo anni è stato mandato in SRI LANKA, dove ora si trova ora e siamo sempre rimasti in contatto; è stato missionario in piccoli villaggi in cui l’unico cattolico era lui, ed ha sempre fatto opere di beneficenza nei confronti dei bisognosi . Io ho sempre cercato di sostenere i suoi progetti con supporti sistematici dall’ Italia.

Ho sentito recentemente padre ASHLEY e mi ha raccontato di un nuovo progetto che ha chiamato

Aiutare le studentesse in pericolo “

E questa è la descrizione che mi ha inviato con alcune foto:

Il progetto si interessa del supporto a ragazze madri e dell’ educazione ed il mantenimento dei bambini abbandonati a causa della poverta o orfani,

offrendo a questi bambini speranza e futuro, e costruendo per loro un ostello all'ombra delle Suore della Carità di Gesù e Maria, che saranno la loro sicurezza e guida nell'istruzione e nel benessere. Una delle suore insegna nella scuola pubblica.

Il costo stimato del progetto è 7 milioni di rupie, ma con difficoltà sono stati raccolti 1 milione di rupie per la fondazione. Il progetto è stato avviato ed il vescovo ha partecipato alla posa delle fondamenta.

Una bambina orfana che ora ha 7 anni, non avevamo un posto dove tenerla. Così abbiamo avviato questo progetto per i bambini abbandonati. Ci sono 10 bambine in attesa.

La gente della zona è molto povera. La madre di questa bambina è morta tragicamente a causa dei roditori due giorni dopo essere stata ricoverata dalle suore nell'ospedale più vicino.

Abbiamo ristrutturato le case portando loro acqua ed elettricità, riparando i tetti e pavimentando i pavimenti in fango.

Contribuiamo all'istruzione dei bambini.

Una volta completato l’ Ostello, serviranno fondi per l’alimentazione e le attrezzature per la scuola dei bambini.

Nota 7 milioni di rupie equivalgono a circa 20.000 euro, e come diceva un amico “ una pagnotta è fatta di molte briciole”, ma se con il vostro aiuto raccoglieremo più fondi, potremo aiutare più persone e più bambini e mantenere in vita l’ostello e la scuola .

My name is Leonard Wembagher and I live in Naples, Italy.

When I was young, I met a Sri Lankan boy who left Sri Lanka for Naples to become a Jesuit priest. He spoke only English and befriended our family, where we also spoke English.

On June 21, 1969, he was ordained a Jesuit priest in Naples, in the Traiano district, which was a difficult area at the time. My family attended the ordination in place of his parents, who were unable to come to Italy. Father Ashley Samarasinghe worked in the Triano district and opened a church in a garage and a small garage to help the neighborhood students after school.

After years, he was sent to Sri Lanka, where he is now, and we have always remained in touch. He served as a missionary in small villages where he was the only Catholic, and he always did charitable work for the needy. I have always tried to support his projects with systematic donations from Italy.

I recently spoke with Father ASHLEY, and he told me about a new project he called

"Samagj. Seva Project.

And this is the description he sent me, along with some photos:

The project focuses on supporting single mothers and the education and support of children abandoned due to poverty or orphaned.

It offers these children hope and a future, building a hostel for them in the shadow of the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary, who will be their security and guidance in education and well-being. One of the nuns teaches in the public school.

The estimated cost of the project is 7 million rupees, but 1 million rupees for the foundation was raised with difficulty. The project has been launched, and the bishop participated in laying the foundations.

An orphaned girl who is now 7 years old. We had no place to look after her. So we started this project for abandoned children. There are 10 girls waiting.

The people in the area are very poor. This girl's mother tragically died from rodents two days after being admitted by the nuns to the nearest hospital.

We renovated the houses, bringing them water and electricity, repairing the roofs, and paving the mud floors.

We contribute to the children's education.

Once the hostel is completed, funds will be needed for food and school supplies.

Note: 7 million rupees is equivalent to about 20,000 euros, and as a friend said, "a loaf of bread is made of many crumbs." But if, with your help, we raise more funds, we can help more people and more children and keep the hostel and school alive.

Please note that any full amount received by me will be transferred via bank transfer to Father ASHLEY SAMARASINGHE in Sri Lanka, and I will send a copy of the bank transfer to the donors who contributed to the project.
