Sam Sweet Fight Against Cancer

Sam Sweet is a single energetic 31year old foster carer who tucked her 3 little ones into bed on the 28th July and woke in the night with extreme pain and vomiting.  Thinking it was a tummy bug she tried to soldier on until finally ringing a friend early in the morning to ask her to come and look after the children. Seeing how much pain Sam was in, she took her straight to the doctor.   Within a couple of hours, Sam was in hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.  The Doctors found ovarian cysts wrapped around her ovaries and appendix and a lot of fluid. Her appendix was removed.  Sadly 2 days later results showed Sam had mucosal cancer and cancer of the appendix.

5 weeks later while waiting for further consultation with Doctors, Sam experienced extreme pain again resulting in her being admitted to the PA Hospital.   Keyhole surgery is planned for today – 6th Sept.  With further major surgery sometime in the future being bigger than first anticipated, including removal of ovaries, the cyst, the mucosal mass and the abdominal lining and then ongoing chemotherapy still being discussed.  As a public patient, the surgery waiting list is long.

At present Sam is unable to care for these children and has no form of income.

With all Sam’s family living outside of Brisbane, Sam’s mum Glenda, has come down from Rockhampton to be her main carer.
