SAM’S TANZANIA CHALLENGE

 Hi,

My name is Sam Fuller –  I’m a 14 year-old schoolboy who believes that with a little support I can help improve the lives of other children less fortunate than me.

So please don’t bin me!

Good, you’re still reading. Thanks for sticking with me.  I believe that with your help and the help of others I can make a difference. It’s a big challenge but I’m well prepared for that.

Six years ago I was admitted to A&E with severe abdominal pains. Five weeks, two hospitals and two very long operations later the surgeons had removed about 9 inches of my intestine – luckily, they left a bit for later – and I then endured a very long and painful recovery.  It turns out I had something called Abdominal Adhesions.

Unfortunately two years later, just when we all thought I’d recovered, I was back in hospital for further surgery. And now, with an even shorter intestine, several months of recovery and special diets I’ve been given the ‘all-clear’.

Being in hospital for so long gives you a lot of thinking time. It made me realise how lucky we all are to live in a wealthy country with first class medical care and cutting edge technology when much of the world doesn’t even have the benefit of fresh running water. I was indeed very fortunate; I lived to tell my story. But many other kids of my age are not so lucky.

I attended a presentation explaining the work of Camps International. It was my “eureka” moment.  Camps International is an organisation in Tanzania that supports humanitarian projects. I was hooked!

Here was my opportunity to put something back and at the same time acquire invaluable life-skills. An opportunity to integrate with another culture and discover how the world’s poorest survive; people who cannot imagine the quality of care and support that I took for granted and ensured I survived.

Now for the difficult bit. In order to fund this whole project and spend some time within a community in Tanzania I need to raise at least £3,000. My family will support me all the way – as they always have done – but I don’t want to rely on their generosity. I need as many sources as possible to raise as much as I can.

So, with the help of Mum & Dad I’ve set up this page www.gofundme.com/sam-stanzaniachallenge which gives details of how you can get involved. Maybe I can wash your car? Or perhaps you could contribute something that I can sell at one of the car boot sales I’ll be attending throughout the year. I’m sure you get the picture – I want to work to raise every penny.

So please visit my fundraising page or my Facebook page and select how you might like to get involved.
