Sam Cheshier House Fire Fund
Donation protected
Around 4am March 24th, sisters Sam Cheshier and Debbie Meyers were asleep in Sam's home in New Salem, PA when a fire broke out in the home. After waking up to smoke, Debbie was able to eventually find her way out of the house and ran to a neighbor for help. Sam was still trapped in the house trying to escape. A neighbor found her trying to escape through a small window and was able to move the washing machine she had been struggling to move from in front of the window and pull her through. Both women are in the ICU in critical condition and are both on ventilators for severe smoke inhalation. Sam also suffered multiple lacerations to her arms trying to get through the window. This is going to be a long, hard fight for the both of them but with Sam having COPD and Lupus, it could triple her recovery period and leave her with lasting effects. Once they make it through the fight for their lives, Sam will have to face the challenge of rebuilding. The home she had for over 20 years is destroyed. The only remnence of family photos are an outline in the soot...everything has been destroyed.. She will have to start over completely from the ground up, everything from clothes and toiletries to a new place to call home. Sam is retired and living independently so her income is limited and she will need all the help she can get to start over. The medical bills are going to be quite extensive and that is the first hurdle to get over. We have all the faith in the world that they will pull through this. They are fighters and we know they won't give up and we don't want them to have to worry about overwhelming medical bills and not having money to take care of themselves once they're out of the hospital, whenever that may be. We will post updates on here as frequently as we can to keep everyone updated on their condition. Please share this with friends, family, strangers, anyone...every little bit helps. ❤ please note that this fundraiser is for Sam's medical expenses and to help her rebuild, there will be a separate fundraiser for Debbie to make it easier for both families to handle donations.
Both dogs were able to escape the house. Buddy was found by a neighbor but Birdie ran off frightened but thankfully was found the next day covered in soot just like Buddy had been. After a nice bath for both pups, they are safe and back together staying with one of Sam's sons Greg.
