Sam and Misi's cyclone Gita fund

I am raising money to help my daughter and her husband (Misi and Samantha Taufui) repair their home after it was torn apart by Tropical Cyclone Gita on February 12, 2018.

They have had an unusually high amount of trials in the short time they have been married but this has only brought them closer and stronger.
It has been difficult for me as a parent to see them struggle with life’s challenges, and not be able to help more. This, of course, is due to living halfway around the world from each other.

Sam and Misi have worked hard to support themselves while in Tonga. They farm. They sell at the fair. Misi does pest control and construction when there are jobs available. They are thrifty and make due with what they have. I am extremely proud of them. That is why it breaks my heart when I think of the process and labor it took to build their home.

As many of you know, they lived in a wood/cardboard/tarp hut for over a year.
They had no toilet, water or electricity for a long time. But they wanted to be on their own. Thanks to a miracle, they were able to build their home. 

After moving into their beautiful new home (almost 2 years ago), Sam, Misi and kids still had to fill buckets of water outside and carry them in for any type of washing or bathing.
This month, they were finally able to purchase a 500 gallon water tank and pump to deliver water indoors!

Unfortunately, Cylone Gita not only broke windows, lifted the roof, destroyed the ceiling, lights, and fans, and ruined their floors. It blew away the water tank and ripped the plumbing off the house. They have searched for it but have not been able to find it. So many years of savings down the drain!

I know that Sam and Misi’s family were blessed and protected and we all have a lot to be grateful for. That was one of the first things Sam mentioned to me. I’m fact, her exact words were...”We are driving around in town. I'm so thankful our house is still standing. Other people's whole houses are gone.” And later...


Now, because most of the building supplies are shipped in from other countries, supplies purchased in Tonga are outrageous and will probably go up from demand. Many of the materials they need to repair their home have to be shipped over in a crate or container witj prices starting at $800 minimum. This is not including any supplies.
If Sam, Misi, or kids have touched your heart in some way, either through their friendship, support, service or example, please help me help them repair their home! I will be forever grateful.
