En nombre y con la autorización de Héctor Santiago, decidí abrir un GoFundMe para ayudar a su negocio, Cali Nurseries, permanecer operando y continuar produciendo las plantas ornamentales más bellas de Puerto Rico y el Caribe. Conozco a Héctor hace 25 años y puedo dar fe de su integridad y buen corazón. Todos los que lo conocen pronto se dan cuenta de que es un visionario dedicado a su país, su familia, y su trabajo. Es a través de este que se ha involucrado en su comunidad y educa a las personas sobre la agricultura a través de su programa Manos a la Tierra y el Colegio de Agrónomos de Puerto Rico.
Luego del paso del Huracán Irma, su finca sufrió grandes daños. Apenas la recuperación de la finca comenzaba cuando el inminente paso de el Huracán María fue anunciado. Su furia, dañó enormemente la finca y destrozó la mayor parte de la producción de Cali Nurseries, borrando 21 años de sueños, pasión y trabajo duro. Pero lo que María no logró erradicar fue la determinación de Héctor ni la de sus 19 empleados. Gracias a su visión y compromiso con el medio ambiente, su inversión hace unos años en energía solar continúa dando frutos. Esto le ha ayudado a mantener la finca a flote y han podido comenzar a tratar de salvaguardar toda la producción que les sea humanamente posible. Héctor, su equipo, y la finca necesitan de tu apoyo para poder enfrentar la ardua tarea que tienen de frente y los demás desafíos que se les presentarán a largo plazo.
Héctor no sólo sufre las pérdidas tangibles a su finca. Su mayor preocupación es las 19 familias que dependen de Cali Nurseries para su sustento. Los que no perdieron todo, perdieron casi todo. Y aún así, cada uno de ellos está trabajando incansablemente día a día para mantener la finca operacional, y a través de ella, su sustento en la isla.

I have known Hector for 25 years and can attest to his integrity and kind heart. Everyone that has met him soon realizes that he is a visionary dedicated to his country, family, and craft. He is involved in his community and educates people about agriculture through his show “Manos a la Tierra” (Hands to the Land) and through the Association of Agronomists of Puerto Rico.
After Hurricane Irma, his farm suffered significant damages. Once it started to bounce back, Hurricane Maria’s arrival was imminent. Its fury, extremely damaged the farm and shredded most of Cali Nurseries' production, wiping away 21 years of dreams, passion, and hard work. What Maria didn’t kill was Hector’s will and that of his 19 employees. Thanks to his vision and commitment to the environment, his investment in solar power a few years back continues to pay off. It has helped him to stay in business while saving as much of the production as humanly possible. Hector, his team and the farm, need support in order to tackle the immediate task at hand and the long-term project that is ahead of them.
Hector not only suffers the tangible losses that his business has gone through. His greatest worry is that of the 19 families that depend on Cali Nurseries to live. Some of these families have lost it all while others have lost almost everything. Each one of them works tirelessly day in and day out to keep the farm up and running, their jobs, and livelihood in the island.
HIS EMPLOYEES NEED YOUR HELP! HÉCTOR NEEDS YOUR HELP! PUERTO RICO NEEDS YOUR HELP! Cali Nurseries clients are devastated. The farm needs working hands and a healthy budget.
