The funds collected through this campaign will be used to launch the Network of Environmental Leaders of Itapua. This event will connect the emerging community leaders of the department with one another, and with the organizations and institutions working towards the conservation of natural resources. The event will be hosted at PRO COSARA’s operating station within the San Rafael Reserve.
The remaining funds will be allocated toward buying a plot of land in the Atlantic Forest to protect it against deforestation. The parcel sits along the southern border of the San Rafael Reserve, which was founded by the Paraguayan government in 1992. The reserve encompasses approximately 73,000 hectares, with the majority of its area falling within the department of Itapua. The reserve is divided amongst more than 60 privately owned properties which are managed in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADeS) and local conservation groups like PRO COSARA. The desired property is 4km from PRO COSARA’s operating station in Yataí, Alto Verá - Itapúa. This specific parcel of land sits between the border of the reserve and farmlands. It contains scrublands, farmlands, and a small fragment of the Atlantic Forest-including a highly degraded area and a new-growth zone. It is important to emphasize that the San Rafael Reserve is the primary conservation tool for the last forested remnants of the Atlantic Forest region of the higher Paraná, and as such is home to an incredible number of bird, mammal, and insect species, many of which are endangered.
The acquisition and management of this property by PRO COSARA guarantees protection of this biologically significant zone. It will also be utilized to conduct scientific investigations. With your generous support, PRO COSARA will be able to continue promoting the conservation of the Reserve and preservation of this important ecosystem.

Con los fondos de esta campaña buscamos solventar parte del “Primer Campamento de Lideres Ambientales: Itapúa Verde”, el mismo tiene como objetivo principal fomentar el liderazgo y establecer conexiones entre organizaciones e instituciones que trabajan con la protección de los recursos naturales en el departamento de Itapua – Paraguay.
Así también, parte de lo recaudado será destinado a la compra de tierras. El área que se desea adquirir por medio de esta campaña está ubicada en la frontera sur de la Reserva San Rafael, la misma fue reconocida en 1992 por el Gobierno paraguayo como Reserva para Parque Nacional San Rafael, la misma cuenta con una superficie de 73.000 ha aproximadamente; estas están ubicadas en su mayo extensión en el departamento de Itapúa - Paraguay. La reserva está fragmentada en más de 60 terrenos privados y se manejan en colaboración con el Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible y organizaciones conservacionistas como PRO COSARA. La propiedad que se desea adquirir está ubicada a 4 km de la Sede Operativa de PRO COSARA, en Yataí, Alto Verá - Itapúa. Esta propiedad se encuentra entre la frontera de la Reserva y tierras de cultivo. En esta, el uso actual de la tierra se divide en: matorral, tierras de cultivo, y un remanente de bosque alto; seguido en menores porcentajes por bosque alto degradado y bosque bajo. Es importante destacar que la Reserva San Rafael conserva el último remanente boscoso del Bosque Atlántico de Alto Paraná en Paraguay, el mismo es hogar de una infinidad de especies de aves, mamíferos, insectos.
La adquisición y el manejo de esta propiedad por PRO COSARA garantizará la conservación a perpetuidad de la misma, un área de gran valor biológico y con una alta cantidad de especies en peligro. La adquisición de la misma asegurará que será protegida, por lo tanto se dejará de utilizar como tierra para la producción agrícola. La propiedad será preservada y utilizada para el desarrollo de proyectos en el área de la investigación científica. Con su generoso apoyo, PRO COSARA podrá continuar promoviendo la conservación de la Reserva y preservar este ecosistema importante.
