<div>Michelle Galeas is a Salvadoran scientist living in the United States. She is a dedicated professional, exemplary wife, and mother. Currently, she serves as a professor and researcher at the prestigious Tulane University School of Medicine. Her contributions in the field of medical research have helped save many lives.
</div>

</div>
<div>In April, Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer. In May, she underwent surgery, and it was expected that, if there were no metastasis, reconstruction would proceed in a few weeks. However, the tumor that was removed had uncommon characteristics and was analyzed by a distinguished group of oncologists.
</div>

</div>
<div>On June 2nd, Michelle was preliminarily informed that the neoplasm is larger than it appeared and also has a tendency to recur in relatively short periods. Therefore, the treatment must be extended for several more weeks while the tumor continues to be analyzed.
</div>

<div>Despite everything, Michelle has tried to live as normally as possible while awaiting the series of treatments she must undergo in a few weeks. Her strong character and scientific knowledge have taught her the importance of never giving up. Her brave attitude has surprised her colleagues, friends, and family.

<div>Michelle’s medical insurance only covers 80% of the surgeries. Therefore, in addition to the remaining 20%, she must cover the additional costs of expensive medications, preparatory phases, and all the other implications of dealing with cancer, especially of this type.

<div>The amount requested here will only cover a small percentage of the total treatment costs. However, it will be of great help in this initial phase of the battle.

<div>Michelle was one of the many children affected by the Salvadoran conflict, whose parents were involved in one way or another. This situation pushed her to strive much harder than “normal” to achieve her goals. She earned her medical degree from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

<div>Later, she received a Fulbright scholarship to obtain a master’s degree in microbiology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Due to her excellent performance, she was awarded a scholarship to pursue a second doctorate, this time in immunology, at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana.

<div>Michelle es una excelente profesional, apreciada por sus compañeros. Excelente profesional, esposa y madre ejemplar. En abril le fue detectado un cáncer de mama. En mayo fue operada y se esperaba que en pocas semanas, a no haber metástasis se procedería a la reconstrucción. Sin embargo el tumor extraído presentaba características poco comunes. Por lo cual fue analizado por un destacado grupo de oncólogos.

<div>El 2 de Junio fue informada de manera preliminar, que la neoplasia tiene un tamaño mayor de lo que parecía. Y que además tiene una tendencia de reaparecer en plazos relativamente cortos por lo que el tratamiento debe prolongarse por varias semanas más. Mientras tanto el tumor sigue siendo analizado.

<div>Pese a todo MIchelle, ha tratado de recobrar mientras espera la serie a las que debe ser sometida en pocas semanas, ha tratado de llevar una vida lo más normal, posible, no solo por su carácter fuerte, sino también porque como científica sabe la importancia de no darse nunca por vencida. Su valiente actitud ha soprendido a sus compañeros, amigos y familiares.

<div>Su seguro médico solo cubre el 80 por ciento de las operaciones. Por lo que además del 20%, debe cubrir los costos adicionales de los costosos medicamentos, las fases de preparación y todo lo que implica el impacto de un cáncer sobre todo de este tipo.

<div>La cantidad aquí solicitada, deberá apenas cubre un muy pequeño porcentaje de los costos totales del tratatamiento. Sin embargo son de mucha ayuda en esta fase inicial de la lucha.
</div>

<div>Michelle es fue una de las tantas niñas y niños, que fueron afectados por el conflicto salvadoreños y cuyos padres se vieron de una u otra forma involucrados en el mismo. Tal situación la llevó a hacer un esfuerzo mucho mayor de lo "normal" para conquistar sus metas. Se doctoró en medicina en la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo en República Dominicana.

<div>Posteriormente fue becaria Fullbright para obtener una maestría en microbiología en la Universidad del Sur de Illinois, Carbondale. Posteriormente, debido a su excelente desempeño, obtuvo una beca para obtener un segundo doctorado esta vez en inmunología en la Universidad de Tulane, Nueva Orleans, Luisiana.
