Salum Stika & TMW: Swahili Youth Adventure Film

"The Island of Spirits" (working title) is a collaborative horror/adventure film directed by myself, Toran Wolstencroft (Scottish) and Salum Stika (Tanzanian), set in Zanzibar. We are working in collaboration in order to target both a Tanzanian audience, hence the film is entirely in Kiswahili, as well as a global audience through the implementation of English subtitles.
This is my first collaborative film project that will include all the traditional aspects of film making such as a full cast of actors with a script (written and directed by both Stika and myself).
The film aims to fill a niche which has yet to be fully explored - a Swahili horror comedy film staring children who embark on a journey of self discovery through encounters with various spirits and ghosts. The fictional journey of these 5 children is one of conscious growth - in which they realise their own individual character flaws and how their ego functions, they will be forced to grow an expand their perspectives on human relationships and better cope with the nature of existence.
All funds gathered will go directly to paying for the production costs and paying the young actors and actresses. It will serve as a foundation for future collaborations and dialogue between the local film makers and international audiences. With the vision of developing Tanzania's role as a creative hub in East Africa giving opportunities to young artists of all types. This is a non profit endeavour.
The film will be released in early 2022 across a wide range of platforms and, ideally, participate in international film festivals.
