Rape Culture Education, Salt House Creative

Donation protected
Salt House Creative is preparing to tour a one hour, audience empowering, theatre production, that examines and exposes rape culture in Australia.

All funds raised will be utilised to tour this production. If we fall short of our target, the show will still progress on a smaller scale. Every donation counts.

This piece exposes the brutal reality of rape and aftermath. It equips bystanders to take action when seeing something that doesn't seem like healthy interaction. The production is Dr. Daniel Widdowson’s commentary on unacceptable social problems which include rape, gaslighting, silencing victims, and victimising perpetrators. This one-act, three person, minimalist production, explores the following themes: Rape, Consent, Rights, Abuse, Gaslighting, Mental Health, Duty of Care, Trust, Support, Speaking Out, and Consequences.

The initial tour that travelled from the Central Coast, to Canberra, to Sydney received rave reviews with audiences insisting the show must be seen, and in particular, seen by young men.

“An Incredible piece of theatre. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Powerful, evocative, confronting.
~ Shane Emmett

“Cleverly Written, brilliantly acted, a powerful message that needs to be heard.”
~ Phil Blair

“Theatre that makes you feel. Theatre that makes you react. Theatre that makes you feel empowered.”
~ Carmen Foon

A former police detective described the performance as follows, "The scenario that was performed last night was 100% accurate and totally believable. It is ‘in your face’ and it needs to be." Former Chief of Army ADF David Morrison once said, "The standard you walk past is the standard you accept." Thousands of  people will be empowered to speak out and act against injustice in the form of sexual assault thanks to you.

This show will tour schools and rural communities at minimum costs, thanks to your support. All actors will be working at the minimum MEAA rate, all travel will be by road, and accomodation will be minimalistic. Funds will also be used to advertise the performance in remote communities. Every show is followed by a Q&A where the themes explored in the performance are discussed.
