The Salmon Hockey Association represents a small town at its best. We are a can-do organization that is strongly supported by the entire community. Located in Salmon Idaho, our mission is to serve as a volunteer based group committed to bringing the joy of skating and hockey to our children and their families. We strive to provide a quality skating facility, safe recreational youth sport, and an instructional and competitive hockey program. We do this to make our motto “A kid on ice is a kid out of hot water” a reality.
With the help of countless individuals and groups, Salmon Hockey constructed two outdoor ice skating rinks in 1998 on land leased from the City. In 2004, we completed a major milestone by installing refrigeration for the competition rink. Salmon hockey teams can now consistently host tournaments without fear that unseasonably warm temperatures will cause cancellations due to unstable ice conditions. The result has been an infusion of visitors into town who want to experience traditional hockey on our outdoor rink.
Salmon Hockey’s primary goal this year is to provide American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant, clean and safe restrooms and for all players and visitors. Our restrooms are housed in an old mobile trailer that was donated used to the association in 1989. This structure provides two restrooms that are over 50 years old and very difficult to maintain. These two toilets support the entire rink, even during tournaments where as many as 250 fans and players are in attendance.
Our new Snack Shack will provide four ADA compliant restrooms, a service area where players can sell concessions to raise money for their team, and a warming area for families to watch their kids play.
We have already raised over $65k dollars to meet this goal. We plan to have the new facility complete in time for the 2017 hockey season. Constuction has begun on the main structure however, we are still in need of funds to finish the second story, family viewing area.
