Sally's Medical Support Fund

Hello community. Thank you for taking a moment to read this go fund me that I have created on behalf of my mother, Sally Gilman. As some of you may know, and others may not, my mom is currently struggling with her vitality and health. She has many chronic diseases(End-Stage Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Congestive Heart Failure…)  that have over the years been taking quite the toll on her physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The decline has been slow but steady. And, recently on my last trip home, we decided as a family that it was time to begin working with Hospice. We don’t know how much time she has left- it could be 1 month, 6 months, 1 year… But, what we do know is that we want her quality of life to be the best it can for the remaining time she has.

This is where we need a little assistance. There are some items that will help make my mom more comfortable and keep her safe in her home- but, we simply cannot afford them.

Currently, she sits on a hard computer chair all day long because she cannot physically get out of soft chairs (like a couch or recliner). This is not healthy for her skin integrity or the chronic pain she experiences. We would love to buy her a sit to stand recliner which will dramatically help her. The heavy duty one that she needs costs $1000+.

She uses a portable air concentrator that she attaches to her walker in the house and when she goes out to appointments/activities. She absolutely loves this machine because it frees up any cords that used to go across the room- which became a safety hazard. (My mom has fallen 3+ times in the past 3 months- the most recent sending her to the emergency room for 10 stitches on her head.) It also allows her to go out and not have to worry about hauling a large number of heavy oxygen tanks (She requires 4 Liters of oxygen at a constant rate for 24 hours a day- which as you can imagine- goes through O2 tanks quite quickly). You may be asking yourself if she has one- why are you writing about it? Well. When my mom went on Hospice the insurance company decided they did not want to pay for her portable O2 concentrator any more. My parents just received a bill in the mail- which they cannot afford. Either she must buy it out of pocket or send it back. Losing this concentrator means jeopardizing her safety and it significantly reduces her chances of leaving the house.  The price of this little device is $2500+.

Lastly. My mom is on the journey of the unknown. It has its ups and its downs. But mostly it’s hard, scary, and lonely. She could really use community, connection, words of support, and love.

If you have anything that you can give- from $1.00 to words of compassion- it will be deeply appreciated. You will be helping to alleivate some her suffering. Which to me is priceless.
