Salia Scholarships for SAWC Spring

At the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Spring (April 25-29, 2018; Charlotte, NC), HMP will be introducing the Salia Scholarship that will provide funding for 3-5 surgical residents from the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS) to attend SAWC Spring and receive much needed evidence-based wound care education that will improve patient care in their communities.
The Salia Scholarship program is named in memory of Dr. Martin Salia, a graduate of the PAACS program and was one of 136 physicians treating a population of 6 million in Sierra Leone prior to the Ebola outbreak in 2014. Dr. Salia was a US citizen, but chose to give back to his native country by treating patients in Sierra Leone and died from Ebola in November 2014.
Donations to this scholarship program will cover complimentary registration to the conference and airfare, visa fees, hotel, and subsistence.
Please join us in our efforts to improve patient care around the world by giving these residents the chance to learn from our esteemed wound care providers.
CAMPAIGN UPDATE:
We are overwhelmed by the incredibly generous commitments made to date in support of the Salia Scholarship Fund. We want to inform all contributors and potential contributors that due to delays with the visa approval process, the scholarship recipients will be unable to join us at SAWC Spring, but will join us at SAWC Fall, taking place November 2-4, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Thank you again for supporting efforts to improve patient care around the world by giving these residents the chance to learn from the world’s leading wound care providers at SAWC. We look forward to welcoming our first scholarship recipients to SAWC in November, and sharing updates about their experience.
