Salazar's Leg Surgery

Donation protected
About me: My name is Salazar, and I'm an 11 month old Siberian Husky. I love hiking, playing fetch/catch, and wrestling my little sister. I am named after the Harry Potter character Salazar Slytherin due to my fierce look, but I'm actually a total sweetheart! I am also extremely patient, gentle, and a total goof. My mom swears I'm the best dog she's ever met! She takes me everywhere with her; in fact, here I am at my fur-grandma's school!

What happened: A few months ago, I began limping on and off. Over the following months, we saw two different vets who reassured us it was not a broken bone but simply a muscle sprain or a shin splint. The vets kept giving my parents pills, saying I needed to stay in bed as much as possible so it'll heal. I didn't want mom to know how bad it hurt, so I tried my best to not limp. But after a couple months, my leg turned visibly crooked and it became increasingly difficult to run and play. I just couldn't hide it anymore. So, we got an x-ray. The vet had never seen anything like this; she was stumped! She explained that my ulnar was too short, and my radial had bowed out in a curve. Scary words like "surgery" and "amputation" were thrown out there. I have never seen my mom cry so much.
So, we went to the orthopedic surgeon at Mississippi State University. They performed a CT scan and examination to determine that I have Angular Limb Deformity. This is why my leg naturally sits at an angle now.

Why we need the surgery: Angular Limb Deformity can be either hereditary or from a traumatic accident to the bone. Our personal vet believes it's hereditary, while the surgeon thinks it might be from an accident long ago (probably one before mom and dad got me). Despite being uncertain about the exact cause or why this happened to me, we are certain that Angular Limb Deformity has changed my life. I struggle to perform my favorite activities, like running and wrestling. Without this surgery, my leg will only continue to get worse and worse, which will make it harder and harder to play. Angular limb deformity will also dramatically impact my future, as it typically causes early onset arthritis. Thankfully, I do not have arthritis right now but could in the very near future. If I get arthritis this young, it can put so much unnecessary stress on my body. I'll be a young pup stuck in a frail, aching body.
The cost: The doctors estimated a $3,000 bill for the surgery, after my parents have already spent all of their savings (around $1,000) on the multiple vet visits, x-rays, and CT scan. My mom and dad are both full time college students with part time jobs and are already taking out loans to help pay for their schooling. They are terrified that without your help, I cannot get the surgery I need... If left alone, my leg will keep bending and my quality of life will continue to deteroriate. Here's some pictures of the paperwork they sent mom home with:

Thank You: Thank you for taking the time to read Salazar's story. We know there are so many charities and organizations out there to donate to, and you taking the time to consider us means so much. ANY amount of money is so helpful, as the surgery needs to happen as soon as possible. We are so so so grateful for everyone who has already given, and anyone who does in the future. All of the funding we receive through this page will go straight to Salazar's leg and his surgery.
Please feel free to share his story.
