Salary for Teachers at Rwandese Preschool

Donation protected
Hello Family and Friends!
There is a daycare/preschool in Gisenyi Rwanda, lovingly referred to as the "Border Kids Ministry" that provides reduced-cost schooling for children whose parents are working but cannot afford to send their children to school.

This program, beloved by the community and the families involved in the school, was temporarily shut down due to lack of funds. To open up the school and keep the program running indefinitely, we need 200.00/month. This will provide salaries for two full time teachers. This may seem like a small amount but can make a lifetime of difference for the children, parents, and teachers at this school! All additional funds raised will be used to welcome more children into the program and hire more teachers.

This program was founded by Pastor Simon Pierre, founder of Ndengera Foundation. The program organically started when Pastor Simon was driving along the border between Rwanda and the D.R. Congo on his way to work when he saw several children sitting along the border unattended. After asking a few questions, Pastor Simon Pierre learned that the kids were left at the border while their parents searched for work in the D.R. Congo. Without hesitation, Pastor Simon Pierre brought all the children to his church where they played until their parents picked them up at the end of the day.  A preschool was born. Teachers were hired, school uniforms were purchased, and children were able to go to school for the first time in their lives.

After successfully running for several years, the school served 47 children  and employed 2 full time teachers at the time it was temporarily closed early this year.

With 200.00/month, together we can make sure two teachers are employed and children without access to education are well cared for and have good schooling. In addition, families will be empowered to continue working and providing the best opportunities for their families.

From October 2015-November 2016, I taught at this school with Mary and Clementine, the two teachers who were employed at the time the school was closed.  While I loved so many aspects of my time in Gisenyi, Rwanda, volunteering at this school was the highlight of every single day. We took weekly trips to the library, sang songs and read books, played an learned basic shapes and colors. We even took a couple trips to the lake! Beyond all the fun things we did, these children and families taught me about resilience, determination, incredible work ethic, and a passion for learning and community. Believe me when I say, these kids LOVE school and want to be there.

Whether it's 1.00 or 100.00 or whether it's one-time or every month, please consider giving whatever you can to providing hope, joy, and opportunities through education!

Together, we can make a lifetime of difference in dozens of children's lives through education.

Please watch the video below for a quick video on some of the work Ndengera Foundation is doing to enhance the lives of people in the community of Gisenyi, Rwanda. You'll see small clips of young children in a school setting...this is our Border Kids Ministry!

Please consider giving what you can. We can do so much more together than we can alone.

Peace be with you,
Debbie
