Introduction
We are students studying at the University of Leeds.
Sakura Festivals in Leeds were held in last April and December to spread Japanese culture in UK. In Vol.1, we got 2775 visitors, which is more than we expected, and in vol.2, our profit reached to more than £1600 (All profits are donated).
Although many visitors were satisfied with our festival, we want to deliver our culture to more people who don’t know Japanese culture. Even if you don’t know any Japanese culture or have any Japanese friends, you can enjoy this festival!
Our goal
Half of our committee participated in Vol.2 as staff and watched the visitors who put on Japanese clothes (Kimono) or enjoyed Japanese games. We were confident that Japanese culture could attract people from all over the world. This time, we want to invite more people who have not even interacted with Japanese people.
Our largest goal is encourage people to spread Japanese culture as far as possible!
Even if visitors haven’t experienced much about Japan before, we are sure that we can deliver something special that can change their perspective.
What’s on
1. Japanese Experience
We deliver special activities which were popular in previous events such as trying on Japanese traditional clothes (kimono), Japanese calligraphy, or origami. In addition to this, we will introduce our modern culture like Japanese school uniform and make up.
We are sure that visitors can experience the unusual but marvellous lifestyle.
2. Japanese cuisine
Many British people may have had Sushi before, but there are a variety of fantastic other dishes in Japan. With the opportunity of this festival, we will serve our traditional Japanese cuisine.
3. Projecting Japanese scenery on the screen/ Photo display
One of the biggest characteristics of Japan is the beautiful four seasons. Beautiful cherry blossoms covering your sights in spring, magnificent fireworks in summer, red leaves in autumn, or mountains covered with snow in winter. We will show these sceneries on the screen.
About profit
The profit we will make thanks for your support will be donated to Japanese Red Cross Society.

Thank you for reading our page.
I’ve lived in Leeds for only one year as an exchange student.
Although this 1 year is too short to know everything about UK, I’m having a great time so far.
I couldn’t enjoy my current life in the UK without my helpful British friends.
In order to show my appreciation for all the people around me, I want to hold event!
By holding this event and making all visitors happy, I can express my gratitude.
Thank you!
