Saint Zinaida Couch Reform

About us:
The Church of the Holy Martyr Zinaida is located in the neighborhood of Santa Tereza in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The parish traces its origin to 1921,  however, the church was only built in its current location in 1937 and consecrated by Abp. Theodosius to the memory of St. Zinaida (commemorated on October 24).

The Church of the Holy Martyr Zinaida is under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate, in the Diocese of Argentina and South America, under the omophorion of Bishop Leonid (Soldatov). Its current rector is Priest Roman Kuhnen.

The project:
The project that we are raising funds for is a reform of the couches in the social area of the church.  The social area is the heart of the orthodox community, where we gather for coffee after liturgy as well as the celebration and education sessions on orthodoxy and Russian culture.  For those who are able to make it to the church, the social area has taken an even more important role in this moment of COVID restrictions and social distancing that the world is currently experiencing. 

The couches are in extreme need of reform, as you can see in the photos.  From the quotes that we have received, it will cost about US$1,000 to reupholster the couches with a waterproof fabric and to take care of structural maintenance to the frames of the couches.  

Once we have the funds, it will take about 30 days for the project to be complete and ready for use by the congregation. 

We are a small parish with very limited resources, many of our parishioners have suffered in the prolonged economic crisis that has consumed Brazil, thus we are unable to raise the funds internally.  The funds that the parish had saved earlier this year had to be spent to replace our security system and fence, as there was a burglary in the second half of 2020 that destroyed the existing security system and needed to be replaced urgently.
