SAFF Suicide Awareness for Family and Friends

Donation protected

I am Mel, mum of Saffron Freshwater.

Our intention here is to raise awareness for young adults, friends and family
affected by depression and suicide.

There are lots of excellent charities that are specifically aimed at mental health
needs, and a few we’ve discussed as
options for donations, but if it’s possible
to start a charity or foundation to
highlight the needs and support of young adults at university, suffering from
depression or suicidal thoughts, away
from home, that it where we’d like to
start.

This is early days on ideas and research
but we’d love to have a lasting legacy for Saff. Perhaps university-based peer
training or access to well timed, quality
counselling for students and the option
to involve family or friends.

We’re not sure at this stage if it’s even
possible as there are policies and
restrictions but would like to explore all
the options.

If you feel like you could donate, that
would mean a lot to our families that
have been affected by depression and so devastated by suicide. But the main aim here is to proactively support students,
their families and friends that may be
experiencing difficulties around
managing with depression.

I will keep you updated with the progress as it unfolds, or let you know if we then
decide to donate to a charity close to
Saffs heart.

Thank you Xx
