Hi, I’m Sandra, I’m a nurse in Wilkes-Barre.
We’re in a patient care crisis. With more patients and sicker patients, and and less nurses and ancillary staff, I have never seen short-staffing as bad as it is now. We know that every additional patient per nurse increases a patient’s risk of death by 7%. Many nurses in Northeast PA are now 2, 3 or even 4 patients over a safe ratio. You do the math.
Possibly the most important legislator when it comes to passing safe staffing legislation, Senator Lisa Baker, chair of the Health and Human Services Committee doesn't support the bills for staffing ratios or staffing transparency, and she has yet to even meet with nurses, even though nurses in her district have been asking to meet with her to discuss this.
If we raise $3,000 we can buy a billboard on the busiest highway right at the entrance to her district.
We can make sure that everybody in this community - patients, healthcare workers, voters - knows that safe staffing laws save patients’ lives.
