A Safe Bed for Elsie

Elsie is 8 years old. She has severe non verbal autism, sensory processing disorder, global developmental delay, is doubly incontinent, has mobility problems and requires full physical and personal care.  Elsie is also under assessment for OCD and ADHD. She is also very socially anxious and suffers claustrophobia. Elsie has no sense of danger and needs a safe, enclosed bed at night to prevent her from wandering and hurting herself. She has outgrown her NHS funded bed and now needs a long term solution to keep her safe. The only beds funded by the NHS are unfortunately very claustrophobic for Elsie and made from materials with little ventilation. Elsie often wakes at night soaked in sweat due to overheating from being in nappies and non tamper sleep suit. Because of her anxiety over being 'shut away' at bedtime Elsie will scream and cry for hours and self harm by biting her hands and arms resulting in little to no sleep for either Elsie or her Mum who is her sole carer and also has health problems.  They are both utterly exhausted, which then makes day to day life very hard. After researching many different safe beds for disabled children, there is only one that would be suitable by a company called 123 sleep. The bed is called Oliver's bed and has been designed by a family who care for their little boy who has Angelman Syndrome.

The bed is still secure but because it has mesh front and sides, the user can see out into the room and not feel so trapped at night. The difference this could make to their health and well being, physically and emotionally would be immense. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for looking at this campaign x
