SAFAR: Connecting Refugees To Resources

Refugees Suffering:
For refugees, information often means the difference between life and death. The right information at the right time can open up the world for them. Refugees (especially in Moria, Greece) suffer from a lack of access to reliable information inside camps.

Our Innovation: SAFAR
But that’s where we come in. We built SAFAR. SAFAR is an information aggregator mobile application that bridges the communication gap present in camps. Our application centralizes NGO-to-NGO and NGO-to-Refugee communication to tackle both sides of the two-fold problem we identified.

What Qualifies Us
We have done primary research and visited the Moria camp in Greece twice to truly understand the problems and involve refugees in our design process. SAFAR has recently been recognized by the USC Viterbi School of Engineering's 2019 ABC Innovation Prize Winner award.

The Team Behind SAFAR
Our core team members are students at the University of Southern California (USC), experienced and skilled in Business Development, Engineering and Design, Robotics, Mobile App Development, and Systems Integration and Optimization. SAFAR is led by a former refugee, and the team SAFAR consist of award-winning students [for humanitarian initiatives] recognized by sources, e.g., former U.S. President Obama, Forbes, USC, etc., and have worked/work at companies such as; Facebook, Boeing, Microsoft, etc.

We Need Your Help
We have already developed the beta version of SAFAR. However, we are in dire need of funds to continue SAFAR's pilot in Greece. We are currently looking for a $20,000 donation for the final development of our app, UI/UX wireframes, database management, local field agent salary [in Greece], and translation expense [Farsi, Arabic, French, etc]. SAFAR is a non-profit initiative and the team behind SAFAR are volunteers who are not paid any salary. All the donations and funds will go towards the development, maintenance, and pilot of SAFAR. We need the funds by the end of March to get the app ready on time for refugees and NGOs.

Your investment in SAFAR will be an investment in the lives of refugees, most of whom are women and children. Please join us in minimizing the suffering of refugees around the world.

Thank you in advance!
