When I lost my dog Mila last year, I thought I could never fill the void that she left. Then, I met Sadie. While I don’t know anything about Sadie’s life before we got her, I know that she is a part of our family for the rest of hers. Sadie is everything you could want in a dog. She is sweet, friendly, the best playmate and even a little ornery to keep us on our toes. She really completes our family.

As soon as we rescued Sadie on November 2nd, we noticed that she walked a little stiff legged and that she didn’t sit quite normal. She always sits on the side of her hip or with her legs splayed out to the side. Being a puppy, we thought this would be a habit that she would eventually grow out of as puppies can be a little “derpy”.

Last Thursday, after an afternoon nap, Sadie went to get up off the couch and was non-weight bearing on her back right leg. We took her to the vet on Friday for x-rays and learned that her growth plates stopped growing and her knee bones never fused together like they are supposed to. Unfortunately, this is present in both knees. As she has surpassed the age of natural growth plate closure, the only option is surgical intervention.

With Sadie being less than 1 year old, we feel that she still has a lot of life left to live and we want to give her the best shot at a normal, pain free life.

With all that being said, we have to see an orthopedic surgeon in Tallahassee. The surgery is estimated to start around $6,000 but could go upwards of $10,000 depending on how complicated it may be.

We are not the type of people to typically ask for help but this was something we did not anticipate. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Sadie thanks you in advance for her new knees!
