Strippers, escorts and other sex workers are natural lovers and healers, yet we're so vilified by society that others blame us when we're raped and make jokes that end with us being murdered as the punchline.
As a community we join together to affirm our own humanity and release the shame imposed upon us by a society that is ashamed of itself. Our sexual freedom and financial autonomy is an affront to a patriarchal society designed to treat us as property which needs to see us as victims who need saving, even as we're saving ourselves. We need to be recognized not just as inherently worthy for who we are but also as powerful healers who transform the lives of others and work with energy that most energy healers would shy away from. We need respect for sex workers to be infused within the culture of the spiritual healing arts and we need access to spiritual healing wherever we are. That's why I created Sacred Strippers, a supportive spiritual healing community for adult entertainers, sex industry workers and sexual assault survivors..
I'm Amira Barakat Al-Baladi and this is my story. In my 10 year adult industry career I've been a stripper, escort, porn actress, dominatrix, cam girl, phone sex operator, sugar baby and sensual masseuse, I'm now a reiki master, professional healer and teacher of other healers, centering those with a background in adult entertainment. While I was very comfortable with the money I was making as an entertainer and the lifestyle it enabled me to live, I was also traumatized by the sexual violence, social stigma, discrimination and disrespect I experienced. As someone who grew up poor and in very sexually repressive environments, sex work appealed to me as a way to heal my financial problems and my repressed sexuality. Instead it only made the deep splits within me even deeper and I was never truly happy, even when all my bills were paid and I seemingly had everything I wanted. It's important to me to establish a grey area in between "I love my job!" and "She's being sex trafficked!" because in the public discourse about sex work there rarely is that nuance. I support sex workers who love their job and never want to stop and I support sex workers who hate it and wish they could quit everyday. I support sex workers who flip flop between the two and change their mind multiple times in one day. I support nuance in our stories and compassion in how we are represented. Whoever you are, whatever you do, I support you no matter what.
I developed my online persona, Sacred Stripper, to help myself become whole again. Through telling personal stories of my life, I was able to release shame, heal from my experiences, and help others do the same. From this platform, my spiritual healing sessions, my workshop Heaven On Earth: Holistic Healing for Hoes and my Heaven On Earth system of Reiki Energy Healing grew organically. My work responds to a need for spiritual healing and survivor centered services by and for sex workers. I've presented my workshop (under this name and it's original name, Holistic Healing for Survivors of Sexual Assault) in Detroit, Atlanta and Chicago numerous times since 2015, and I've certified 12 reiki I & II practitioners since I started teaching in late 2018. I'm amazed by what I've been able to do with no funding, no admin support, and only my own experience, intuition and the love of my supporters, but now I need your help to grow!
With my students I now have a base of support to build this business into a beacon of healing, a sex worker support system, an alternative income stream in the spiritual healing arts for all current and former sex workers, and a pathway out of the industry for all those who want it. I am committed to this mission whether I have investors or have to invest all the money myself, but I can achieve these goals much more quickly with your support. Even a $5 donation goes a long way!
