Deaf Maddie Needs Our Help, Owner Battling Breast Cancer
Sabrina Evelyn is a young, single mom has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has a toddler and a deaf dog to care for. Sabrina reached out to my dog rescue volunteer team to help Maddie, her sweet, deaf pittie dog with medical needs, training, and a re-home.
Step 1.)
Maddie needs a specialized e-collar for deaf dogs (works as a high quality hearing aid for dogs) to help her walk on a leash and understand human communication skills. The e-collar is $385 and it will help Maddie and her humans learn to communicate with one another.
As soon as funds are raised, her trainer at Canine Moxy will provide proof of receipt for us to post.
Step 2.)
Maddie needs to be fully vaccinated, heart worm tested, and spayed before any more time passes for her safety and health.
Step 3.)
Maddie needs training to help her and Sabrina communicate. Maddie also needs group classes to help her safely socialize with other animals. She's been happy to play with a few dogs in her social circle but needs more confidence at her young age. She absolutely loves her little human sister and the photos and videos provide (adorable) proof!
Since Maddie does need a rescue, foster or new family, we can confidently know any triggers or issues through evaluations and training. Please share with any rescue contacts, experienced fosters and adopters in the San Antonio / Austin central Texas area.
Let's come together in community and kindness and help this deserving family navigate a challenging chapter ahead and find Maddie a safe, loving home. Every donation, any amount adds up and it makes SUCH A POSITIVE IMPACT! Thank you for your kind support!
*Venmo is also a payment option

Sabrina's Original Message For Help:
"On Friday, I got the news that I have breast cancer and it has spread to my lymph nodes... 2025 is going to be pretty rough for my little family.
My dog Maddie is very special, she’s 55 lbs, loving, playful, almost three years old, and deaf. I acquired her as a puppy, nursed her through parvo by syringe feeding her water and chicken broth. I LOVE her. A couple months later I became pregnant and she’s been by my side ever since.
She is reactive when she is on a leash, inside the car, or looking out the window. Even though Maddie can be reactive, she’s still an incredibly loving dog. She will warm up to you and then bring you her Kong toy to throw 1,000 times in the apartment. I take her out three times a day but she definitely needs more exercise. But with a small child I am doing the best I can...when she comes in from a potty break she knows to hop in the bath tub so I can rinse her feet.
She is not fixed and I believe in fixing all dogs but physically it just wasn’t possible for me to do - taking her into a vet w my daughter. She did grow up with my senior Rhodesian ridgeback until I had to put her down last June. Maddie needs someone that will work with her and be able to put in the time but she’s worth it and deserves someone special.
I want to find her a good home and would still love to see her when possible. I will help with this transition however I can... I just want her to be happy and safe. My life is about to change and I really need help. My therapy will be starting the first week of March and I don’t even really know what to expect….
