SA Mark Waller Medical Relief Fund

Special Agent Mark Waller, an ATF Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) and Certified Explosives Specialist (CES), seriously injured his back in early February while conducting explosives training at the NCETR in Alabama. Mark ended up being hospitalized in Huntsville and later, after returning home to Charleston. Somewhere along the way Mark contracted a serious MRSA bacterial infection which has further complicated his medical situation. After weeks of antibiotic treatment and another hospitalization, Mark was not getting better or responding to treatment. In late March, Mark’s wife Donna, flew Mark up to New York and admitted him to a hospital specializing in infectious disease. It was quickly determined that the bacterial infection had caused serious damage to vertebrae in Mark’s back. On 3/29 Mark had a surgery to access the damage to bone in his spine, as well as to flush out the infected areas. While the surgery went well, Mark has a long road ahead of him in continuing to fight the infection and have reconstructive back surgery.

While this was a work related injury, Mark and Donna have associated out-of-pocket expenses, including travel to and from Charleston and New York, lodging expenses while in New York and up front expenses related to medications and treatments for Mark. The funds from this gofundme effort will be to assist Mark and Donna with these out-of-pocket expenses related to Mark’s treatment and recovery.

Mark is a special agent assigned to the Charlotte Field Division, Charleston Field Office, and his family, friends and co-workers are praying for a full recovery from this traumatic injury and infection. Thank you for your support of this effort for Mark and his family.
