As some of you may know, Houston, TX was nearly completely flooded by Hurricane Harvey this August 2017. Some areas were affected more than others and unfortunately for my family, we are one of those families who lost our home we took so much care to put together for our three young children.
After a couple years of working working nearly 60 hour weeks at multiple jobs, we were finally able to save for our own apartment in July 2016. We didn't have beds to sleep on but we were happy to see our children play free in their own space.
Eight months later in March 2017, we finally saved enough money to get our children their first beds ever. Our hearts filled with warmth every night we laid our children to sleep in their own beds. I'll never forget the giggles and smiles on their faces when we they first climbed into them the first night. Never did we imagine that we'd lose it all so quickly. Never did we imagine we could experience something so much more heartbreaking than our entire family sleeping on the floor for nearly a year.
I wish we could say that we are back at square one, but the pain our family feels right now is unlike anything we have experienced before. We are determined to continue working hard to rebuild our lives, but as we clean up what is left of what used to be our home, we could use some help.
