Lebanon is witnessing a severe economic crisis, a currency depreciation against the US dollar and a hyperinflation causing a surge in prices of goods. This rapid and excessive increase in prices, spiraling out of control, has left families fighting for their basic needs and parents desperate to provide food and medicine as well as tuition fees and educational materials for their children. All of this comes at a time where Covid-19 has enforced a lockdown weighing on Lebanon’s economic health. The Central Bank of Lebanon decided to end the subsidy program for vital basic items such as wheat, fuel oil, pharmaceutical products…as their foreign currency reserve dwindled sharply over the past year, resulting in an additional increase of prices.
Moreover, the explosion that shook Beirut and all of Lebanon on August 4th, destroyed thousands of houses, wounded more than 4000 people and left thousands of families without providers all over the country.
Bright Horizons started as a personal initiative of Lebanese individuals to raise funds for unfortunate families in Lebanon has grown into a global community as many people from all over the world joined our cause. While NGOs are putting their efforts to help rebuild the capital and provide support for people living there, we have decided to channel our support toward families in need in remote rural areas, where there is a complete absence of any financial and development support.
After months of collecting data we have formed a list of families and categorized them based on their needs.
Families will receive:
- Food boxes that include basic and necessary items
- Medicine for families with no health insurance or social security coverage
- A contribution in educational materials such as stationary, books…
- A contribution in the tuition fees for families with no or single provider
We will be collaborating with local NGOs to provide medicine at the best rates possible, with wholesalers to prepare decent food boxes and educational materials at a fair price and directly paying tuitions to schools. Our goal is to insure families receive the help they need without intermediate parties and to forbid any misuse of the funds by any side.
Help us help our society unfold its talents through creating a better reality for Lebanese families and providing our children with proper education, allowing them to be someone today and a success story tomorrow, locally and internationally. Let us compassionately provide them with the opportunity to discover the magic of education and light our society’s soul.
