Help a teacher in war-torn Yemen

My name is Carolina and I am fundraising for a dear friend in Yemen (who I will call only W for her and her family's safety).

W was an English teacher and we met as we collaborated on a project to promote understanding, respecting, and valuing different cultures in our respective schools.

Unfortunately, the civil war that has been ravaging Yemen since 2014 has deeply affected W and her family. Her father suffered great violence (including being kidnapped), the school where she worked was closed, and her elderly parents are often unable to get appropriate medical care. They often struggle to get basic necessities such as food and coal to cook and keep warm.

From my working relationship with W grew a friendship. I had the opportunity to meet her caring and kind family too, including her little brother who made the beautiful drawing which illustrates this fundraiser.

Over the years, I have tried my best to support the family through difficult times, but now I need some extra help because of medical expenses. W’s mom urgently needs cataract surgery, which the family cannot afford. They spent all they had to get surgery on one eye, but now they are left with nothing to pay for the other eye or even to pay for food and medicines they desperately need.

As gofundme doesn’t work in Yemen, the only way to get the money to her is via Western Union. I can withdraw the funds here and send the money to her with Western Union. I have used Western Union many times to transfer money to her family, so I am sure it works.
