My 16 y/o nephew, Sidney, an avid skateboarder, was at the skate park with his mates on July 11 when he fell and hit his head. A seizure afterwards prompted a trip to the ER where it was determined he had bleeding and swelling in the brain. The local hospital in his town of Bury St Edmunds, England had him transferred to a larger facility in Cambridge where a neuro team awaited his arrival and took him directly to surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain. He is currently stable but when the swelling returns, as the doctors know it will, if it swells too quickly, they will have to remove part of the skull to save his life. Obviously, we are praying they are able to keep that under control. Even still, there is a chance of brain damage and ultimately rehab. Either way, he has a very long road ahead of him, and while we pray for full recovery, the reality is that may not be the case and there will be a lengthy rehabilitation for him.
Anyone who knows Darrin, Kirsty, Sidney, and Leni know what an incredibly special family they are. They are so close and just being apart right now is so hard for them. Sid is such a beautiful, respectful, and kind young man and the greatest big brother to Leni. I’ve watched her ask him to do something with him that he didn’t necessarily want to do but ultimately agreed because thats just the kind of big brother he is!
We are trying to raise money to offset loss of wages as well as living expenses for Darrin and Kirsty while they are away from home staying near the hospital. They are living minute by minute awaiting updates from the hospital and obviously don’t know what the future holds for them. Should Sid ultimately require rehab, money donated will be applied to that as well. If God gives us the miracle we are praying for and Sid makes a complete recovery, any money not used will be donated to a charity or cause of their choosing
If you aren’t able to give, please join us in praying for a full recovery so that we may have back the Sid we all know and love!!
