FIRE RELIEF - MANDY & KENDALL LAYCOCK

Donation protected
A moving trailer fire destroyed most of the belongings of Mandy (Schneider) Laycock and Kendall Laycock on July 26, 2022, in a tragic incident at the start of their relocation to Oregon. Newslink

It was to be the first step in the start of a new adventure for Mandy and Kendall Laycock. Kendall (Westlake High '22) was soon to start college at the University of Oregon, located in Eugene. When Kendall decided on her preferred school, the Laycocks as a family felt it would be beneficial for Mandy to move close, but not too close, to Kendall's new stomping grounds. Furthermore, Kendall and her family would secure residential tuition prices, while her father and stepmother would maintain a home base in Austin for Kendall.

This move was also a big, new adventure for Mandy. A long-time renter in Austin, Texas, she would embark on homeownership and a new life in Bend, Oregon. Tackling the expenses of newly purchasing a home, a daughter entering college, and the costs of moving in a short amount of time called for Mandy to attempt to be as resourceful as possible.

Mandy had little time to make everything happen and a strict budget. She also had to make all such arrangements around keeping up with a fast-paced career. When an opportunity for her to add her stuff to a trailer already scheduled to move belongings from Austin to Oregon came her way, she took it.

While westbound, the trailer caught fire due to the driver's negligence. It was further discovered the individual involved was unlicensed, uninsured and has received multiple citations. There is nothing Mandy can do to seek recovery from this individual. She has not even been able to contact those involved.

None of their housewares and furnishings were recovered. They also lost many beloved keepsakes, adding to the emotional grief of the situation. As it exists now, Mandy and Kendall will have a more extreme version of a fresh start in Oregon.

This campaign will allow Mandy to purchase crucial furnishings and housewares for her and her daughter. We're talking beds, mattresses, and a place to sit and eat. Mandy had packed everything short of an air mattress, her computer she works from and a suitcase full of clothes. She was camping out in her current home while waiting for the soon-approaching date to arrive in which she would pack up her and the family pup Ruby and drive out west to join Kendall.

These two phoenixes in the making are well deserving of your donation. If you know them, you understand the immense kindness and light they bring wherever they go. They would do the same for you in a heartbeat. Your contribution will help them rise from the ashes in all senses. Let's make this tragedy a success story.
