S.T.A.R.: The fight continues.

The S.T.A.R. Program (S.T.A.R.) is a nationally recognized, scientifically proven adolescent health promotion model that employs original, peer-developed,  theater to assist young people in identifying and clarifying the health and social challenges they face, help change negative or unhealthy attitudes, and promote healthy behaviors.

Founded by Dr. Cydelle Berlin during the height of the AIDS epidemic, S.T.A.R. has imparted vital health messages to thousands and thousands of adolescents, their caregivers, and providers worldwide.

S.T.A.R. provides a safe space for vulnerable young people to gain access to health and sexuality information and skills that can change the course of their lives, without the heavy handed, academically oriented “lecture” style of the classroom that they so often reject. Through improvisation, peer actor/educators, who reflect the diversity of our City’s youth, craft compelling characters and dramatic material that explores the attitudes, situations and behaviors that put young people at risk and models healthy alternatives. S.T.A.R.’s portfolio of age and culturally appropriate interventions address youth from the 5th grade through young adulthood with specifically designed theatrical productions and educational workshops for each developmental level.
