Our family would like to take time to give you an update on our daughter Grace and thank our community and her co worker Gina for their out pouring generosity and support in helping us get thru this painful time.

Grace was admitted to the Surgical ICU at Morristown Memorial Hospital on 2/20/2019 after sustaining a traumatic brain injury, specifically a Diffuse Axonal injury (multiple areas of injury throughout the brain caused by an accelerant deceleration of the brain inside the skull) due to an automobile accident on icy roads.  She also has multiple skull fractures.  She was found comatose at the scene of the accident and has remained in a coma ever since.

She is considered in critical condition. Although still fighting multiple symptoms of the injury (high fever, tachycardia bacterial pneumonia and another infection).  She is still in a coma and on a ventilator. It is not known when she will "wake up."  Doctors have said that it is not uncommon for this stage of her recovery to last up to six months.  The doctors are predicting at least a year for her recovery and her expected deficits are unknown at this time.  When she is released from critical care she will be transported to a rehabilitation hospital specializing in TBI.

Grace lives on fer family farm in Sussex County NJ with her 4 year old daughter, mom, step-dad and younger brother.  Grace is a member of the NJ Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers and is heavily involved in the Sussex County 4-H program, leading several 4-H clubs including Beef, Alpacas and Goats.  She loves spending time on her boyfriend's dairy farm, Deckertown Holsteins, in Wantage, NJ and has a particularly close relationship with her cow Clarissa who she hand raised.  On top of her heavy presence in the farming community, Grace loves her job with Quick Check corporation and had recently been promoted to Food Service Manger in the Lafayette, NJ store.

Her mother Natalie Burger has been by her side in the ICU since the night of the accident.  Although Grace has insurance which will cover the majority of her hospital stay, her rehabilitation stay will be long and hard.  Any assistance that you can provide to Grace and her young daughter is greatly appreciated.
