Ryder's Veterinary Fund

Please help Ryder be healed of his pain.

We adopted Ryder from a rescue organization in May, 2015.  He formed an instant bond with my daughter and our family, and has a very sweet disposition.

He had a seizure in the first week after we adopted him.  He had a seizure about every 17 days for almost 4 months, until we were able to get them under better control with veterinary assistance.

Ryder has gone over a year now without a seizure, but he now has back problems that appear to be as a result of the seizures he suffered.  We are in the early diagnosis and treatment stage for this new development.

Sometimes, he will just scream out in pain and whimper and cry, then he will sit shaking and looking very forlorn.  He is walking with a hunched back, and hasn't been interested in his food.  He has had Veterinary treatments and takes some medication for the pain, but he needs further diagnosis and more treatments.

We need help to make sure that we can continue the path of diagnosis and treatment to heal him of this pain.

Thank you for any assistance you can offer.  Ryder thanks you.

UPDATE: Ryder's x-rays show compressed vertebrae in two areas of his spine.  We are trying some therapeutic treatments to alleviate the pain and inflammation, but he will most likely ultimately need surgery.  It is believed, though cannot be definitively proven, that this began as a reaction to a pharmaceutical flea and tick treatment, possibly exacerbated by an overlap in time with neuter surgery and vaccinations.  Some animals are simply more susceptible to adverse reactions, and some pharmaceutical brands and types tend to cause adverse reactions in more animals than other brands/types.  The Veterinarian says that animals with this type of spinal compression often respond very well to the treatment(s), and often live full lives after surgical treatment.  Ryder is a relatively young dog, just turning five in May, 2017, and we are not ready to give up on him yet.  The surgery would cost $3,500.00.  The treatments that he is receiving now are in addition to that surgical cost.  Some people would say "just put him down", but that is not an option for us.  He is family.  He deserves to live a good and happy life as much as any other living being.  Others would say "Don't have a dog if you can't afford its care".  We can afford regular care and routine check-ups and small treatments, but most people would need a little assistance when surgery costs and frequent treatments are involved, and that is where we now find ourselves.
He just needs to be treated, and we need some help to make that happen.  We and Ryder thank you for any assistance you might be able to lend.

UPDATE:

We have consulted with two Veterinarians.  We are hoping to follow a more holistic route, and to ultimately avoid the need for surgery.  We are told that we can keep the therapies up for the long-term, and that we shouldn't need surgery if they continue to help.  Ryder still needs your help, as the cost of the ongoing therapies is still going to be more than regular annual check-ups and routine care would be, and we still need a fund to help with those additional costs.  If you are moved to help this sweet dog, we thank you.  If you are not moved to help build his fund, we thank you for reading his story and sharing his link.
