As some of you know, Ryan, our son/brother/dad, is one of the kindest, most humble human beings you’ve ever met. He’s funny. He lives a simple life. He finds great joy in cooking a gourmet meal at home most evenings. He loves to read books, golf, watch movies, and walk his dog in his free time. We love him dearly. Right now, he’s going through a very tough time and needs our help.
On April 20th, Ryan started to feel very sick at work. He could barely walk and was so fatigued. He ended up in the ER, where doctors told him he was severely anemic and in critical condition. He was given several blood transfusions and admitted to the hospital. The next day, on Easter Sunday, he had a colonoscopy, that showed a medium size mass in his descending colon. On Friday, April 26th, a pathology report confirmed a diagnosis of moderate differential adenocarcinoma. A PET scan done on May 3rd reassured us that the cancer is isolated to his colon (Stage 2) with no other areas of cancer in his body. He will have surgery on May 21st to remove the mass.
We are hopeful that Ryan will make a full recovery. This type of colon cancer is the most common, and Ryan is committed to his treatment plan. Fortunately, Ryan has private health insurance; however, it won’t pay for 100% of his medical bills. He will not be able to work while he recovers from surgery as well as aggressive chemotherapy treatments. We want him to focus on getting healthy again, and not on the added stress of covering medical and living expenses with no income.
